Whispering

do you see the fabric of the universe,

dripping from deep blue sky to stained earth

familiar faces drifting by,

forgotten souls, like a copper patina,

a distant glimmer awash in seething brightness,

of a million dull reflections.

wide eyed, pupils gaping

to grasp the darkness,

escape the blinding lights.

one by one eyelids shutter,

like dreams that wake to nightmares,

lucid,

visions of cheer, dewy whisperings,

deep breaths and deeper purple petunias,

crushed by guilt,

fragile, like houses built,

on gorges awaiting a tumble,

morning will bring restlessness.

bittersweet, like a cold summer

or a peculiar sunflower,

dwelling in the blackness of a cave,

the faces creep by now

in dusky shadows,

fraught by the absence of warmth,

that now brightens their path to the gallows.
